APC Muslim-Muslim Ticket Won’t Neglect Christians, Oshiomole Says

Former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Adams Oshiomole discussed the All Progressive Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim ticket issue in an interview with The Morning Show on Thursday.

Mr Oshiomole expresses his displeasure with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Pentecostal Federation of Nigeria’s (PFN) opposition to the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket, saying that religion isn’t the issue.

He says there is no evidence that Muslims are safer than Christians and vice versa or that there are more unemployed Christians than Muslims; Nigeria’s problem is beyond religion.

He argued that if there was a Christian-Christian ticket, would the Muslims be affected so why would it be a problem now that there is a Muslim-Muslim ticket and also there’s no evidence of a consultation or a meeting held between CAN or PFN, before a decision was taken.

“There was no consultation, before arriving at a decision there’s supposed to be a meeting held,” he said.

Oshiomole took us back to the time of Obasanjo where there was a riot in Jos and Obasanjo travelled there, he said that someone under the guise of CAN demonstrated the same attitude where religious concerns where spoken about, instead of tackling the real issue of criminality.

He posed a question asking if the people are satisfied right now that there is a Christian and Muslim in power. He says that people should be focusing on the challenges in the country and what any of the presidential candidates are going to do differently to achieve a different outcome, instead of focusing on religion.

“The pressing question is what will any of the presidential candidates do differently to achieve a different outcome not what will a Christian do.”

He added that he has interrogated and fought with power on the side of the people and too many people in politics get away with too many things; they only talk about what they want to do and not how they are going to do it and fund it.

“I’m looking forward to this election because too many people in politics get away with too many things.

“When saying they want to do things, they don’t talk about how they are going to do it or about how they are going to fund it.”

Oshiomole also made reference to the Emir of Kano where he said that “rich people should rather build schools than mosques”. He says that the Emir is a serious Muslim but he understands the long term prosperity that this will bring.
