The 20 Governors of the All Progressives Congress under the aegis of Progressive Governors Forum have said with President Bola Tinubu and their political strengths, the party is in a vantage position to win the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States states.
The chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, expressed optimism after he led four APC governors to a meeting with the national chairman of APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.
According to him, the party has done very well in Nigeria, adding that the economic crisis is a global economic problem that will soon be over.
The meeting was attended by Governors Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Lucky Aiyetadiwa (Ondo) and Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti).
Uzodinma said that the APC National Campaign council for the Edo governorship election will be inaugurated in the State on July 20, 2024 and the 20 governors of the party would be on ground to ensure the party’s victory.
He said APC has done very well in Nigeria as what is happening currently is a global economic problem.
Uzodinma expressed optimism that Nigerians would soon be jubilant about how the President has managed to navigate the turbulent waters.
He said, “A party like APC that is in control of 20 states out of 36 and also produced a President and members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) is the majority party and if election is the game of numbers, it means majority will win.
“So when we get to Edo we are majority party; on 20th of this month the National Campaign Council will be inaugurated in Edo State and it is expected that most of us, the members of the Progressives Governors Forum will be in attendance. Which other party can provide or boast of such asset, politically speaking?
“So, we don’t need to overflog the horse, the truth of the matter is that the APC has done very well in Nigeria. What is happening currently, is a global economic problem. We in Nigeria under our own leadership, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is also bringing out policies to ensure good governance.
“Given the kind of economy he met, given the kind of situation he saw when he came, he has started the treatment and by the grace of God. I am very confident that very soon Nigerians will be jubilant about how he has managed to navigate the waters.”
Also speaking, Ganduje assured that the APC under his leadership will do all it takes to ensure that it maintains good relationships with its governors across the country and help to protect their interests.
“We will do all it takes to ensure that we maintain good relationship with our governors all over the country and we will help to protect their interests and there is no doubt that they are also assisting the party, they are making the party to be proud as an institution”, he said.Friday Olokor
