Angry Crowds Flood  MTN Offices Across Nigeria  Over Barred Lines

Tension is raised further in Nigeria as angry citizens flood MTN offices across the country over disconnected lines.

Crowds have flooded MTN Nigeria offices nationwide as many lines have been barred from making or receiving calls due to unlinked NINs.

Telecommunication companies began mass disconnection of telephone lines not linked with national identification numbers (NINs) late Saturday.

However, many of those whose lines were disconnected say they’ve been linked to NIN, some multiple times.

There are currently huge, angry crowds outside MTN offices in Ibadan, Osogbo, Abuja, Uyo, Kano, Lagos and other parts of the country.

The latest disconnection has been attributed to the July 31 deadline set by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for telcos to bar all subscribers whose NINs have not been linked to phone lines.

The restriction, which comes ahead of a planned nationwide protest set for August 1, has fueled frustration among an agitated populace, further raising tension.
