The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Anambra State, Nicholas Ukachukwu has stated that his vision for the state centres on treating governance like a business, with measurable outcomes and visible dividends for the people.

During an interview with ARISE NEWS on Wednesday, Ukachukwu argued that years of poor governance have left Anambra underperforming and in need of a results-driven approach to development. He emphasised that managing public resources should mirror the discipline and accountability of the private sector.

“Anambra State needs to be run as a business, so that people should see, because we are managing the collective wealth of the people. Every country worldwide, every government worldwide, every business worldwide, if you’re not running government as a business, dividends and profits can not come out of it,” Ukachukwu said.

He pointed to the federal government’s shift away from relying solely on oil revenue as an example of what’s possible when leaders focus on innovation and revenue generation.

“Look at Nigeria, for instance. Maybe we’ve not gotten there yet, but if you look at it, it’s the first time that we’re not relying on oil revenue to run the budget of this country, because nobody knew that we can generate as much as what we’re generating now,” he added.

Ukachukwu believes his extensive background in business and his long-standing involvement in political support across party lines uniquely position him to drive such a transformation. According to him, Anambra’s wealth must be managed in a way that creates value and opportunities for all.

During the interview, he also addressed the allegations of godfatherism, stating that his long-standing role in Anambra politics is one of strategic support, not control.

Ukachukwu noted that he has consistently played a “fatherly” role in helping past governors attain office—including the incumbent.

He said, “I have been recognised as a leader of repute, not just being a leader, who has contributed one way or the other to anybody that has been a governor in Anambra state, including this current governor. I have been supporting them to be governor.”
