The Ondo State Security Network Agency codename Amotekun on Tuesday paraded 27 suspected criminals arrested across the 18 local government areas of the state within two weeks.
The state Commander of the corps, Adetunji Adeleye while showcasing the suspects at its headquarters in Akure said aside the two cases of kidnapping recorded, the corps recorded more cases of house breaking during the period under review.
“Today, we have a total of 27 suspects on parade. On Anti-grazing/farmers’ clashes, just five cases were recorded and all the five, we were able to resolve them amicably. What I mean by that is, the headers volunteered to pay for the cost of what they destroyed and equally paid the fine of government for the infringement.
“The uniqueness of today’s parade is that apart from very little cases, about two or three kidnapping cases at the borders, that is the Akunu-Kogi-Ondo border, where we had two cases of kidnapping and in Ose border-Edo-Ondo border, where we had one case in the last two weeks, we could say that the entire 18 local governments is at peace”.
Adeleye further stated that the corps arrested a 30-year-old man who engaged in malicious damage, cultism, and attempted murder of law enforcement agents and a 42-year-old man simply identified as Gbenro who attacked Amotekun officers in a bid to cover his nefarious activity.
“We equally have Samuel Peter, 21-year-old man, who engaged in an attempted murder and one Akimade Friday, who outrightly murdered and killed a 65-year-old man. This is a 20-year-old boy.
“In the same way, we narrowed down on one Segun Owolabi, 20 years old, that engages in stealing motorcycles and robbing to dispossess rightful owners.
“We have a gang that specializes in burgling houses, especially when owners of such houses are not in their houses. We have Toba, Pelumi, Ogunade, Oriade, whose age bracket ranges between 22 and 25. We equally have Segun Yusuf, who engages in malicious damage of household properties.”
While encouraging residents of the state to go about their daily activities without fear, Adeleye stated that Amotekun rangers are already in the farms across the state, especially in the government forest reservers to ensure that there are no infringements.
“A cross-section of this suspects showed that more than before, the state is getting more peaceful. I want to assure the residents of Ondo State that the Ondo State Security Network Agency will continue to engage criminals, both within the town and in the forest, towards ensuring that people can sleep with their two eyes closed in their houses, farmers can go to their farms and commuters can travel without fear, especially as the yuletide period is coming in”, Adeleye added.
