Amid Worsening Insecurity, Police IG Redeploys Senior Officers in Nigeria’s Southeast

Nigeria’s Police boss Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the redeployment of senior police officers in the country’s southeastern region, a step aimed at tackling the worsening insecurity in the region.

Baba, the Inspector-general of police gave the order in a statement signed by force spokesman, Frank Mba on Friday.

The West African country has been battling a spike in insecurity with several police stations and government properties attacked.

Security agents have also come under increased attacks in the region with two police stations razed recently in Imo state. Also, earlier in April, unknown gunmen raided a federal correctional centre in the state with over 1000 inmates released.

Recently, the country home of the Imo state governor was attacked by hoodlums with a part of the property and vehicles burnt, while in Ebonyi state, hoodlums attacked a federal high court and burnt a part of the building.

Among those redeployed is Monday Bala Kuryas, Anambra commissioner of police.

Two deputy commissioners and 14 assistant commissioners were also affected in the shake-up which extended to some states in the south-south.
