Algeria Vigilant Against Bedbug Infestation From France

No infestation has been reported yet in the African country.

Algerian officials have intensified border health procedures to stop the spread of bedbugs, which have raced over France.

The North African country’s health ministry announced “health monitoring and disinfection of aircraft, ships, and vehicles at entry points.”

It comes amid fears that the blood-sucking insects would enter Algeria owing to the large number of people travelling from France.

While advising vigilance, the ministry stated that no bedbug infections have been detected in the country.

Morocco has previously declared efforts to curb the spread of bedbugs into its borders.

Early this week, the French government promised to take steps to “reassure and protect” the public from the bedbug invasion.

Dozens of alarming films on the spread of bedbugs in Paris buses, trains, airports, and other public areas have been shared on various social media sites.

Bedbugs have infested French towns, increasing fears among Algerians that the insects might be transmitted to their nation due to extensive transportation between the two countries.

The bedbug invasion comes as Paris prepares to host the Olympic Games in 2024.
