Algeria to Lodge Complaint Over Afcon Referee Decisions

Manager of Algeria’s national team Djamel Belmadi says he will lodge a formal complaint against referee Mohamed Odello from Comoros who officiated The Desert Foxes’ African Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifier match against Zambia.

The Africa champions – who had already qualified for the continental tournament – were denied a win in Lusaka through a controversial penalty awarded in the last minutes of the game.

Algerian manager Belmadi expressed his disappointment at the result of the game saying: “It is impossible to win in these conditions”, accusing the referee of “deciding the final result”.

“We are going to file a complaint with the African Confederation. This kind of outrageous refereeing cannot take place in the World Cup qualifiers,” he added.

Belmadi also accused the referee of giving Zamiba two “unfair” penalties and of “turning a blind eye” to the hosts’ staff who “spied” on his team at the training ground.
