There was panic across several states in the country, fueled by the Telcos recent blocking of phone lines that were said to be non-compliant with the NIN-SIM linkage requirement Disgruntled subscribers took to the streets on Monday in protest.

A group of protesters were seen in a trending video, damaging the fence of an MTN Office, in Festac, Lagos. The fuel queues have returned and many fuel stations are currently dry.

There is fuel scarcity in Lagos, Ogun, parts of Abuja, Niger, and some other states across the country. There are reports that black marketers have taken advantage of the situation, selling as high as N1,300 per litre and N1,500 per litre in parts of Lagos and Ogun states.

NNPC has said that the fuel scarcity is as a result of a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to sell crude oil to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and other refineries in Naira.

The United States, United Kingdom, and Canada have issued security alerts to their citizens in Nigeria, warning of potential violence during the planned nationwide protests. Young people took to the streets in Lagos on Monday, and held a counter rally to say “no” to the planned nationwide protest, scheduled for August 1st. The protesters were said to have converged from different parts of lagos, to express their support for the Tinubu-led administration, while calling on other youths to shun violent protest.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has signed the new Minimum Wage Act into law, nearly two weeks after the President and Organized Labour unions agreed on N70,000 thousand Naira as the new wage. Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who addressed State House Correspondents, after the signing ceremony, said that the new minimum wage act, applies to the whole nation, and that No Nigerian worker will offer services and be paid anything less than N70,000.
