Akpabio Goofs On Minimum Wage + Remi Tinubu Urges Youth To Farm + Daniel Bwala On Youth Protest – Trending With Ojy Okpe

As reactions continue to trail the planned nationwide Youth protests, slated for August 1st, over rising cost of living and economic hardship, a former spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar campaign in the 2023 elections, Daniel Bwala said that some foreign interests are taking advantage of the political climate in the country to promote the nationwide protest.

Bwala spoke in Abuja on Wednesday, when he visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Aso Rock villa. Traditional worshippers in Lagos State have announced plans to hold the Oro Festival across the state from August 1 to 15, coinciding with the planned #EndBadGovernment protest.

The announcement has since sparked reactions on social media, raising concerns about potential clashes between protesters and festival participants. The Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, yesterday urged the young people of Nigeria to embrace farming.

Tinubu made the call while speaking with the management of the National Agricultural Development Fund. She emphasised the need for programs that engage the youth in farming despite urbanization challenges. Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, appears to have misinformed the public, when he claimed that Nigerians can no longer pay any domestic worker below N70,000 Naira, as minimum wage.

Akpabio was speaking at plenary, after the new minimum wage bill was passed into law. Akpabio emphasized that the new wage applies to all and sundry, including employers that hire a maid, driver or gatekeeper. Nigeria’s former First Lady, Mariam Sani Abacha and her son, Mohammed, have filed a law suit against President Tinubu, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and three other government agencies before the Court of Appeal in Abuja, seeking recovery of an alleged unlawfully revoked property, belonging to the former Head of State, the Late General Sani Abacha.

The property said to be located in the Maitama District of Abuja was revoked by the Federal Government and sold to a private company allegedly without the knowledge of the Abacha family. Mariam and Mohamed are asking the Court of Appeal to void and set aside the judgment of Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja which on May 19th 2024, dismissed their suit on the property.

According to them, a party to a proceeding cannot transfer title to a 3rd party; during the pendency of an action. Earlier in the week, Tamzania’s President, Samia Suluhu Hassan was heavily criticized for having a convoy of approximately 120 vehicles. Thousands of protesters in Washington DC, demonstrated outside the US Capitol, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed lawmakers.

The protesters called Netenyau a war criminal and demanded a cease-fire, while condemning the killings of more than 39,000 Palestinians in the war.
