Akpabio Apologises To Governors Over N30BN Claim + Hardship Protest Rocks Several States – Trending With Ojy Okpe

In the United States, an active duty airman, 25 year old Aaron Bushnell has died after setting himself on fire, outside the Israeli embassy in the deadliest act of protest against Israel’s devastating war on Gaza, Shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday, Bushnell began his livestream and walked toward the Israeli Embassy with an insulated water bottle full of flammable fluid saying that he will no longer be complicit in genocide. U.S President, Joe Biden has said that he hopes that there will be a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict by next Monday.

Joe Biden made the comments during an appearance on Monday at an ice cream shop in New York City with comedian Seth Meyers.

In Nigeria, Members of Civil Society Organisations on Monday took to the streets in Edo and Osun states in protest, over the economic hardship in the country. In Benin City, the protesters marched from Kings Square to Akpakpava Road carrying placards with inscriptions such as “End Economic Hardship” and “Federal Government ‘End the Hunger in Nigeria Now.

While in Osogbo, the protesters converged at the Nelson Mandela Park in the capital city. They called on the Federal Government to End the High cost of Living. This is as members of the Nigeria Labour Congress stormed the streets of Lagos State to express their grievances over the current economic hardship and the government’s alleged failure to implement agreements reached between both parties on October 2nd, following the removal of petrol subsidy.

The Nigeria Customs Service has suspended the sale of seized food items over a stampede that claimed lives at the agency’s Old Zonal Headquarters in the Yaba area of Lagos State last Friday.

A spokesperson for the Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada made the announcement in a statement on Monday. The Customs had on February 20th said it would dispose seized food items to cushion the hardship and cost of living in the country.

The spokesman said the disposal of the food items got off to a smooth start as they gave preferences to the elderly, people living with disabilities, pregnant women, and other vulnerable Nigerians who showed up for the exercise until unforeseen challenges arose,when they ran out of stock and announced that the continuation of the exercise will be the following day, leading to the stampede.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, is said to have apologised to the state governors over his comment on the N30 billion Naira hardship allowance allegedly given to them. Akpabio had, at a plenary sitting last Tuesday, during deliberation on the Ways and Means collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria by the previous administration, said that an unverified report indicated that state governors received N30 billion Naira each from the Federation Account to cushion the effect of inflation and the high cost of food prices. Some state governors, like Seyi Makinde of Oyo State refuted the claim.
