Brentex CPP, the Chinese consortium handling the Abeokuta, Kaduna and Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline project, has disclosed that a large number of its work force are Nigerians.
Chairman of the company, Howard Wang disclosed this during a visit of three ministers to the Kaduna site of the project.
Wang said 1,925 Nigerians and over 61 local sub-contractors are engaged in executing the project.
On Friday the ministers of Information (Mohammed Idris, Finance (Wale Edun) and Petroleum Resources-Gas (Ekperikpe Ekpo) inspected the Kaduna River crossing milestone of the project.
Wang said, Brentex CPP engaged more than 61 local sub- contractors at all levels of the project, while 1,925 skilled and semi-skilled Nigerians were employed for the project expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.
“We successfully engaged more than 61 local sub- contractors at all levels of the project.
“We directly employed more than 1,925 skilled and semi-skilled Nigerians.
“We recruited, trained, certified and engaged 674 Nigerians (skilled and semi-skilled) in 29 different fields of Oil and Gas Pipeline construction, out of which 339 are from the local communities”, Wang said in a welcome address.
He commended the over 240 communities along the right of way, for working in harmony with the company.
He thanked the Nigerian government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for their trust in awarding Brentex CPP consortium, the engineering, procurement and construction contract for 40 × 318.6km

He expressed delight that the project is set to be completed,
despite the challenges ranging from weather, Covid 19 pandemic, insecurity and escalating global prices.
Wang said 98.54 per cent (315km) of the line linear construction and 100 per cent HDD crossing for Shika River in Kaduna state and Hadejia River in Kano state had been completed
He added that more than 51 per cent of the Kaduna HDD River crossing had been achieved.
