The Chairman of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Onyema has been honoured with the prestigious award for “Outstanding Support/Service to the Nigerian Army” during the 2024 Nigerian Army Day Celebration.
The ceremony took place on Saturday at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos, Plateau State.
The event was graced by the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, His Excellency, Barr Caleb Mutfwang, Governor of Plateau State, and His Excellency, Agbu Kefas, Governor of Taraba State.
The Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, stated that the award recognises Onyema’s continuous contributions to the socio-economic development of Nigeria through his airline and other enterprises, and his outstanding service to the nation and humanity in general.
Established in 2013, Air Peace has been instrumental in supporting Nigerian military personnel.
Upon its inception, Onyema introduced a special initiative offering military officers flights at a reduced fare of 10,000 naira.
This commitment was further demonstrated in 2022 when Air Peace introduced a priority boarding policy for military officers, acknowledging their invaluable service to the country.
“It is our way of saying thank you for all they are doing for the country,” Onyema said.
In September 2023, during the 33rd Convocation Ceremony of the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna, Onyema pledged to introduce rebates on flight tickets for retired military officers, reaffirming his commitment to supporting the military community.
His unwavering support for the Nigerian military and his substantial contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic development continue to inspire and significantly impact the nation.
