Ahead of UK Medical Trip, Buhari Orders Nigeria’s Service Chiefs to End Banditry

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the country’s service chiefs to put an end to banditry and kidnapping.

The Nigerian leader gave the order on Tuesday at the presidential villa ahead of his visit to the UK for his routine medical checkup.

Babagana Monguno, the national security adviser (NSA), who briefed state house correspondents after the meeting quoted the President as asking the military chiefs to “take out” the terrorists and their sponsors and warned that the reign of terror unleashed on parts of the country by bandits and kidnappers is no longer acceptable.

According to Mr Monguno, the president insisted that all approved decisions at the national security council meeting in February remain enforced, including a ban on mining activities in Zamfara and the no-fly order imposed on the state.

The meeting included the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Attahiru; Chief of Naval Staff; Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amoo.

Also present were aaVice-President Yemi Osinbajo; National Security Adviser to the President, Maj.-Gen Babagana Monguno (retd.); the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, amongst others, were also at the meeting.
