After 16 Years, South Korean Man Confesses To Murdering Girlfriend, Hiding Body In Cement

In a chilling case from South Korea, a man has confessed to murdering his girlfriend and concealing her body in cement 16 years after she was reported missing. The suspect, in his 50s, admitted to hitting the woman with a blunt object during a heated argument in his apartment in Geoje. Following her death, he placed her body in a suitcase, which he then buried under bricks and cement on his balcony.

The discovery of the remains occurred last month when a maintenance worker stumbled upon the suitcase while drilling. Local media reported that the body was partially preserved and identified through fingerprint analysis. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.

The suspect, referred to as Mr. A, was not residing in the apartment when the body was uncovered but was quickly located and arrested. He revealed that he had lived with the woman for about five years before the tragic incident in October 2008. After the argument that led to her death, he continued to reside in the apartment for an additional eight years until his arrest on drug charges in 2016. Since then, the landlord of the apartment had left it empty, using it as storage space.

The woman’s family reported her missing only three years after her death because they had reportedly lost contact with her. When they came to look for her in Geoje, they were reportedly told she had broken up with Mr A and left the city. The woman was in her 30s at the time of the incident.

The case remained unsolved until this year when the building’s owner initiated waterproofing work, leading to the grim discovery.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and are expected to charge Mr. A with murder, bringing a long-awaited resolution to a case that has haunted the community for over a decade.
