The Vice President of the Dangote Group and owner of Dansa Agro-allied Limited, Sani Dangote, is dead. He was a younger brother to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.
“INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAIHI RAJIUN. It is with a heavy heart but with total submission to Almighty Allah that we announce the passing on of our Group Vice President, Alhaji Sani Dangote today 14th November, 2021. May Allah SWT grant him mercy and admit him in aljannat al firdaus,” a note from the Dangote Group confirming his demise was released midnight.
THISDAY gathered that the late Dangote died at a hospital in the United States Sunday evening, after a protracted illness.
He received an undergraduate degree from Harvard University. He was a businessman with more than 30 years’ experience in manufacturing, agriculture and oil services. He sat on the board of several other companies which included the Nigerian Textile Mills Plc, Nutra Sweet Limited, Gum Arabic Limited, Dangote Textile Mills Limited, Alsan Insurance Brokers, Dan-Hydro Company Limited, Dansa Food Processing Company Limited and Dangote Farms Limited.
He was also the Deputy Chairman of the African Gum Arabic Producers Association and a two-time President of Lagos Polo Club in addition to being a professional polo player.
He was also the Consul-General of the Romanian Embassy in Nigeria as well as member of several Chambers of Commerce, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Shipping of Nigeria and President of the Fertiliser Producers and Suppliers Association (FERSAN).
For those who are close to him, he is an unassuming business man as well as publicity shy. He was a dependable and close confidant of his elder brother, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
As a Director of the Group, he is largely seen, but not heard and everything he does is behind the scene. He has been particularly absent from the social circle for sometime now. As THISDAY learnt Sunday, he was battling ill health for the past several months.
