Abuja Electricity Distribution Company Appoints Okwuokenye As Acting Managing Director

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced the appointment of Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye as the acting Managing Director, effective immediately. This strategic move is a significant part of AEDC’s ongoing transformation agenda, aimed at positioning the company as the leading customer-focused electricity distribution entity in Nigeria’s power sector.

Engr. Okwuokenye previously served as AEDC’s Chief Operating Officer, where he was responsible for overseeing strategic support units and embedded generation projects. With a profound understanding of the power sector and a commitment to advancing the vision of Nigeria’s electricity supply industry, he is well-equipped to lead AEDC towards achieving its goals.

Commenting on the new appointment, Dr. Stanley I. Lawson, Chairman of the Board of Directors, expressed his confidence in Engr. Okwuokenye’s capabilities saying, “Chijioke Okwuokenye is an experienced leader who has been integral to our company’s transformation agenda. His technical and commercial expertise make him the ideal candidate to drive our corporate turnaround and deliver value to all AEDC stakeholders.”

In addition to Engr. Okwuokenye’s appointment, AEDC has also named Olumide Jerome as the new Chief Operating Officer. Jerome, who previously served as one of the company’s Chief Business Officers, will now focus on driving efficiency and operational excellence across the organisation.

AEDC is committed to delivering reliable electricity to millions of customers across the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), Kogi, Niger, and Nasarawa states. Following a 60% acquisition by a Transcorp-led consortium in May 2023, AEDC has embarked on substantial upgrades to substations, expanded distribution networks, and integrated advanced technologies to enhance power supply reliability and operational efficiency. The company remains dedicated to improving customer experience and generating value for all stakeholders while contributing to the socioeconomic development of the regions it serves.
