After weeks of near-silence on the state on insecurity in his state, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State emerged from his cocoon on Thursday to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.
The governor was forced to see the president one day after Abubakar Malami, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, said the Nigerian government may consider imposing emergency rule on Anambra over the recent spate of attacks in the state.
Malami on Wednesday had said the federal government will consider this as an option to protect the electoral process and constitutional order in the run up to the state governorship election slated for November 6th.
However, in his briefing to the State House press corps, Obiano said he had reported the attorney general to the president, adding that the declaration of emergency rule did not have Buhari’s backing.

He described the threat as unfortunate and wondered why Malami had not contemplated the imposition of emergency rule on northern states with worse security situations.
Obiano pointed out that Malami is on the National Campaign Council of APC governorship candidate in the Anambra election, Senator Andy Uba. He warned that if it is the strategy of the ruling party to use emergency rule to circumvent the poll, it had failed already.
James Chukwuneye Ezike, a lawyer and indigene of the state who has served as counsel to several top politicians in the country, speaks to The Morning Show crew about the political shenanigans playing out and state of insecurity leading up to the Anambra governorship election.
