The lead cast of “A Quiet Place: Day One”, Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn, have said that it was an interesting and refreshing challenge for them to partake in a movie that had very little dialogue in the filming as it made for nuanced acting in the film.
The stars of the “A Quiet Place” franchise spoke in an exclusive interview with ARISE NEWS, where they shared their experience while filming the third movie in the franchise.
Lupita said, “It was really refreshing to have a project that requires very little talking because, what it did is that it strips away just the easy way of communicating. We are always communicating with our bodies, with our facial expressions, we’re always saying more than our words represent. And so, when the words are taken away, all you have is that kind of more visceral, more primal, human communication, and it makes for very nuanced acting I think.
“And it makes for great listening. You have to be listening in the moment, you can’t prepare what you’re going to do because you don’t know what the other person is bringing to the work. So, it was very exciting to do it and to do it mainly with Joe because he’s a very generous actor, so you never feel like you’re out there alone, It was definitely teamwork.”
In total agreement with his co-star, Quinn said, “It was an interesting exercise. Yes, we both spoke about it, how this was going to be the main challenge of it really, being able to communicate with each other without any dialogue- most of the film, no words at all, and it was definitely something that doesn’t happen very often.
“Normally, in a screenplay, it’s very much about the words. For us, it was very much what was happening between the very few lines that are in the film and trying to establish these two characters’ connection. That felt like a very interesting challenge and one that we were both curious to invest in.”
They were then asked if filming the movie had made them think of an apocalyptic scenario in the real world, to which Lupita responded, “Yes, but not so much because of this film, because I live in a fire prone zone in Los Angeles- I moved to this fire-prone zone last year, and I actually had a scare where there was a fire nearby, and I realised I did not have a plan in place. So, since then, yes, I have a bag packed, and with supplies for me and my cat to be able to evacuate as soon as possible.”
“I live in South London, so God willing, there’s no fires there,” Quinn laughingly said, going further to add, “I need to pack a bag.”
Lupita, whose character in the film, “Sam”, has a service cat which she had with her through the duration of the movie, said that she was not so much as a cat person before she filmed the movie, but in the process of filming, she ended up falling in love with cats and wounded up getting herself one after filming. Quinn agreed that cats were perfect for the movie as they have the ability to be silent and stealthy, but said he is more of a dog person himself.
Since its initial release on June 27, the “Quiet Place” prequel has significantly exceeded expectations. A franchise record of $53 million is anticipated for the film’s opening weekend gross.
