After a heated debate on Thursday, Nigeria’s Senate passed the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill.
Under Section 52 of the bill passed by the Senate, the lawmakers effectively usurped the powers of the Independent National Electoral Commission to determine how election results should be transmitted and transferred.
However, in the House of Representatives, pandemonium ensued after the Deputy Speaker Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase ruled against a voice vote for the electronic transmission of results.
The resulting chaos forced Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila to take over the session and adjourned sitting till Friday.
Former Director of Voter Education for INEC, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi was on ARISE News Mornimg Show to discuss the far-reaching implications of what transpired in the National Assembly and enlighten us on INEC’s capacity to transmit results electronically.
