40 Schoolgirls Abducted as Terrorists Invade School in Northwest Nigeria’s Kebbi State

Reports suggest bandits have abducted about 40 students and three teachers of a Federal Government Girls College in northeastern Kebbi State.

While details of the incident remain sketchy there are yet to be confirmed reports that a security operative was shot dead during the attack.

The heavily armed bandits rode on motorcycles from neighbouring Rijau forest and stormed the school after overpowering the mobile police unit guarding the school.

The situation at Birnin Yauri where the school is situated is tensed and people are in the state of confusion.

This is definitely not the first attack on schools in northern Nigeria. In the last three weeks, pupils have been abducted in an Islamic school in Niger state as well as the abduction of staff and students at the Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic in Kaduna State.

Abductions have become more indiscriminate across northern Nigeria as local criminal gangs view victims as a source of income, and the villagers — who have been ignored by the government — as disposable.
