The Lekki Volleyball Club (LVC) is set to host the 3rd edition of the Thunder Games, one of Nigeria’s premier volleyball tournaments, from April 15 to 19, 2025, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
According to a press statement issued on Monday, the five-day event will feature 28 teams — 18 male and 10 female — battling for supremacy in a competition that continues to grow in scale and prestige.
Now in its third year, the Thunder Games has become a key fixture in Nigeria’s volleyball calendar, drawing top talent and energising fans of the sport.
This year’s edition promises intense matchups and fresh rivalries as new teams join the tournament alongside returning powerhouses like the Lekki Cruisers, who claimed both the male and female titles in 2023.
“We are thrilled to host the 3rd edition of the Thunder Games, which has become a flagship event for Lekki Volleyball Club,” said Odafe Gbagbaje, President of the Club.

“We are confident that this year’s tournament will be an exciting and closely contested competition that will showcase the best of Nigerian volleyball.”
Top contenders expected to participate include Legacy Volleyball Club (Lagos), Phoenix (Ogun), Hitters Spikers (Asaba), and Harmony Spikers (Kwara), with more teams coming in from various states to challenge for the title.
With volleyball’s rising popularity in Nigeria, the Thunder Games offers a platform not only for competition but also for celebrating the sport’s growth and the community it continues to build.
“We have put in place all the necessary arrangements to ensure a successful tournament,” said Olusola Aluko, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee.
“We look forward to welcoming teams and spectators from all over the country.”
The 2025 edition promises a packed schedule of thrilling games, vibrant fan energy, and a celebration of the sport’s future in Nigeria.
The organisers are expected to release match fixtures and additional event details in the coming days.
