Officials report that a bus travelling from Turbat city to Quetta, the provincial capital, crashed in a mountainous area early Wednesday. Noorullah Essazai, a health official in Washuk district, confirmed the fatalities, indicating that 54 passengers were aboard the bus. Some survivors suffer severe injuries and are receiving treatment locally, with plans to transfer critical cases to Quetta or Khuzdar, 120km away.
Muhammad Ismail, a Washuk government official, described the bus crashing through a bridge and plunging into the ravine, with the driver among the deceased. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti express condolences and pledge support to the affected families.
The incident adds to Pakistan’s recurring road accident woes, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier this month, a similar tragedy in Gilgit-Baltistan claimed 20 lives.
