Twenty-seven members of the Rivers State house of assembly have defected from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers, led by Martin Amaewhule, who are reported to be loyal to the former Governor, Nyesom Wike, held a plenary session on Monday where the decision was taken.
Tight security was also seen at the entrance of the assembly complex in Port Harcourt, which is the state capital.
The legislators gave the division within the PDP as the reason for their defection.
