The All Progress Congress candidate, 26-year-old Rukayat Shittu, has been named winner of a Kwara State House of Assembly seat.
Shittu will represent the state’s Asa Local Government Area’s Owode/Onire Constituency.
The Independent National Electoral Commission’s returning officer, Prof. Ijaya Hakeem, announced the results and reported that the candidate received 7,521 votes in the district. By a margin of 564 votes, Rukayat defeated the People’s Democratic Party rival contesting for the same seat.
The 26-year-old legislator-elect for office was the National Open University of Nigeria’s (NOUN) Congress of Students’ first female Senate President.
