At least 18 people, including four children, were wounded in an overnight Russian attack, according to Ukrainian officials.
The attack, which targeted energy and gas infrastructure, saw nearly 70 missiles and 200 drones launched against Ukrainian cities.
Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, condemned the strikes, accusing Russia of targeting “infrastructure that ensures normal life” and hitting residential areas. A missile strike on a house in Kharkiv left people injured.
In response to the attack, French Mirage jets were deployed for the first time, effectively pushing back the assault, according to the French air force. Poland’s military also scrambled fighter jets and activated air defence systems during the strike.
This barrage comes after the US suspended military aid to Ukraine, including intelligence sharing, heightening tensions.
Meanwhile, Zelensky is set to travel to Saudi Arabia next week for US-Ukraine talks on peace efforts, urging European leaders to support his proposed steps for a “full and fair” resolution to the war.
