12 Nigerian Police Officers Abducted, Gunmen Demand Ransom

Armed men in volatile Borno state, northeastern Nigeria have abducted twelve assistant superintendents of police, the British Broadcasting Corporation is reporting.

It’s believed that the officers were deployed from the Borno state police command and were on their way to conduct a special operation in Zamfara when the incident occurred.

The wife of one of the officers was quoted to have said she did not hear from her husband for three days, so she went to a police barracks in Borno where she learnt that her husband had been abducted.

She was also quoted to have said that her husband had phoned and instructed her to sell his house to raise the ransom, while the families of the officers are working to raise N800,000 each to rescue them.

The incident occurred twelve days ago but only came to light on Tuesday.
