100 Hours: Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci Sets Guinness World Record for Longest Cookathon By An Individual

Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci surpassed her initial goal of 96 hours to set a new Guinness World Record For ‘Marathon Cooking’ With 100hrs 40mins on Monday at exactly 20:40 WAT.

The 27-year-old restaurateur kick-started the competition last Thursday at 16:00 WAT in Amore gardens as soon as she turned on her cooker aiming at breaking the record of 87 hours, 45 minutes attained by Lata Tondon in India in 2019. 

The chef, whose initial target for the cooking marathon was set at 96 hours, showcased her culinary skills using various local and intercontinental recipes to put Nigeria on the global culinary map. Hilda has been receiving waves of support from political leaders, celebrities, clerics, and other well-meaning Nigerians.  

President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari in a tweet he shared on Monday expressed his immense joy stating that he is “proud of what she has personally accomplished and placing Nigeria in the global spotlight”. He added that Hilda’s “drive, ambition and resilience have brought great interest and insight Into the uniqueness of Nigerian food”. He addressed her as a “cultural icon” hoping that “many more young people in Nigeria and beyond will follow in her footsteps”

Governor of Lagos State, Babjide Sanwo-Olu who also visited the event stated that he is “proud to have Hilda embarking on this journey in our state”. 

Hilda Baci who is no stranger to the heat of competitive kitchen expressed her gratitude at the end of the event to everyone that supported her all through the competition.
